  • PARENT ED & SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) COORDINATOR- Over the past year, Austin ISD has reconfigured and re-envisioned its approach to social and emotional learning. Under the guidance of a new director, two successful departments have joined forces: Social and Emotional Learning is now merged with Cultural Proficiency and Inclusiveness. Together these two departments are aimed at developing lifelong self-awareness and self-management skills, supporting healthy relationships, honoring diversity as an asset, priming students for greater global awareness, and making learning environments welcoming and productive for all students.  What is SEL? Social and Emotional Learning is an evidence-backed process for helping students and adults develop fundamental knowledge, skills and attitudes for life effectiveness. SEL teaches the skills we all need to handle ourselves, our relationships, and our work effectively and ethically. These skills and concepts are integrated in academic lessons and practiced to enhance the climate of the school, community and district. What is CP&I? Cultural Proficiency is the ability to understand the ways that our personal culture and background impact those we work with, while inclusiveness is a way of being that invites perspective, respect, understanding and acceptance. For more information about these exciting changes, visit the SEL and CP&I website and read the Introducing Your SEL and CP&I Team newsletter.  CHAIR: Tricia Kim  - triciamitchellkim@gmail.com
